TriZetto and Sun Microsystems Collaborate to Make HealthWeb E-Business Solution Available on Sun Solaris and iPlanet Platforms

Market Demand Drives Decision to Expand HealthWeb Solution

PALO ALTO, Calif. and NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – August 15, 2001 – The TriZetto® Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: TZIX) and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced their collaboration to make TriZetto's HealthWeb® e-business solution available on the Sun and iPlanet(TM) platforms. Sun's Solaris(TM) 8 Operating Environment will serve as the preferred UNIX® system-based development platform for TriZetto's HealthWeb, a solution that allows health plans to open their back-end systems to the Internet and offer real-time self-service to their constituents. Adding a UNIX system-based operating environment makes HealthWeb a more flexible e-business solution for the many health plans that run their businesses on multiple operating platforms.

Sun's scalable, secure platform and the iPlanet Application Server, ranked #1 in the Forrester Research e-Business Techrankings*, offer enhanced flexibility, scalability, high availability, and integration capabilities. iPlanet, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, also offers the industry's first e-commerce portal platform. The iPlanet Portal Server will provide TriZetto customers access to the HealthWeb e-business solution from any Web browser, in a manner that is personalized and secure.

The iPlanet Portal Server and the iPlanet Application Server are key components of the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) and Sun's vision of a complete open architecture for the creation, assembly and deployment of smart Web services.

"TriZetto's collaboration with Sun and iPlanet represents a significant evolutionary step in HealthWeb's development," states Gail Knopf, chief operating officer of TriZetto's HealthWeb business unit. "We chose Sun's Solaris 8 Operating Environment because it is a trusted choice for building a robust environment capable of handling millions of secure transactions. We believe moving HealthWeb to cross-platform technology broadens its market appeal and responds to customer requests. Sun's Solaris platform and enterprise Java(TM) technology combined with iPlanet Application and Portal Server software will help us accommodate the diverse platform environments of our current and prospective customers."

The advanced security features built into the Solaris 8 platform will also help provide HealthWeb customers with greater assurance in the security of confidential financial and patient information. The iPlanet Application Server enhances the availability and scalability features of the Solaris platform through advanced Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition development environment (J2EE(TM)) load-balancing and high availability clustering as well as by providing a sophisticated integration development and deployment framework and business management capabilities for integrating with existing legacy applications. In addition, HealthWeb's adoption of iPlanet's industry leading support for the J2EE platform will help enable its health-plan customers also using the J2EE platform to combine products from a wide range of vendors running on disparate platforms.

"The healthcare industry today is on the cusp of a technology revolution, one that will reduce the staggering percentage of healthcare dollars spent on administrative and compliance costs," said Murtz Kizilbash, manager for Sun Microsystems' global sales organization in healthcare. "The scalability, reliability and security of the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, coupled with the iPlanet Application and Portal Servers and the rich solution set offered through TriZetto's HealthWeb, help provide healthcare organizations with the opportunity to embrace secure Internet age solutions and reach previously unattainable levels of efficiency."

"Sun's alliance with TriZetto, one of the nation's most comprehensive healthcare technology companies, demonstrates our commitment to deliver best-in-class solutions developed through leading independent software vendors and application service providers," said Darryl Parker, senior director, Applications Market Development, Sun Microsystems. "Combining TriZetto's HealthWeb platform with Sun's robust technology and global sales and marketing channels will help deliver increased efficiency more quickly, easily and cost effectively."
