New TriZetto Directlink Software A Breakthrough Alternative To Clearinghouses And Cumbersome Legacy Connections

Direct Internet Link to Trading Partners Slashes Costs,
Delivers HIPAA-Secure Transactions

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – November 17, 2004 – Healthcare payers can now exchange transactions with providers, employers and other constituents directly over the Internet - at a fraction of the cost of clearinghouse fees and inadequate legacy connections - thanks to TriZetto DirectLink™, new software from The TriZetto Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: TZIX). The technology provides point-to-point connectivity and cutting-edge security features, including encryption, authentication and tamper protection, which exceed the government's HIPAA security guidelines. DirectLink is easy to use and can be remotely deployed and installed via the Internet, right to the desktop, with no cost or hassle to the payer's various constituents.

TriZetto developed DirectLink to help its customers stay ahead of trends in the health benefits market. Clearinghouse fees, which continue to increase, can quickly spiral out of control for healthcare payers that must process thousands of claims and inquiries per day. Despite these high costs, clearinghouse transactions can still be fraught with service and data problems.

In addition, older technologies used to establish direct connections in the past have been expensive, unreliable and difficult to operate and administer, especially for multiple constituents. Plus, using this type of connection, healthcare payers can not link to smaller, lower-tech businesses, like some physician and employer groups. The looming April 2005 deadline for new HIPAA security standards has also raised questions about whether legacy direct connect technologies, like the common File Transfer Protocol (FTP), will be compliant. These industry dynamics have created tremendous incentive for healthcare organizations to establish direct Internet connections that make life easier for payer and trading partner alike. With new sophisticated connection software, these organizations can reduce overall costs, automate processes and increase the adoption and value of shared electronic information.

DirectLink connects the healthcare payer's back-office system with the constituents' administrative systems, so the applications can "talk" to one another seamlessly. By eliminating the need for manual processes, DirectLink improves data quality, reducing the errors that can occur with human intervention and outdated paper-based transactions. The system supports any healthcare transaction, including claims submission and tracking, enrollment and member eligibility inquiries. DirectLink can be remotely managed and monitored via the Internet from a central point of administrative control, so it's easy to set up and use. Additionally, DirectLink guarantees that transactions are delivered - and never lost or duplicated - even when an Internet connection unexpectedly drops.

According to Rick Fitzgerald, senior vice president of TriZetto's Enterprise Connectivity unit, TriZetto continues to stay ahead of the curve in developing sophisticated IT solutions for its customers.

"Last year, Forrester Research issued a report on the need for direct connections in healthcare, but predicted limited growth because the right technology wasn't available to support them," said Fitzgerald. "TriZetto again leads the industry with our DirectLink connectivity software, which tackles key healthcare payer business requirements, like reducing costs, increasing efficiency and meeting government regulations. Our customers want to maximize the return on their IT investment, and that's what TriZetto delivers."

Customers can license DirectLink, or TriZetto can host and manage the system for customers in one of its data centers.
